Chevrolet has announced a new electric car, the Bolt EV. The all-electric vehicle will have a range of 200 miles and will be available for purchase in California and Oregon this year. This is great news for anyone looking to buy an electric car! The only problem is that the car will cost around $35,000 before any incentives are applied.

For those of us who don't want an electric car, the bad news is that it will cost just around $30,000 to upgrade a Volt with a Bolt's battery pack.

The Bolt EV's 200 mile range comes from a 60 kWh battery pack which provides 148 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The 2016 Volt has a 18.4 kWh battery pack, providing the same 148 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque from its electric motor. The Volt can travel for 53 miles on a full charge before the gas engine kicks in to recharge the battery pack. If Chevy can deliver on its promise, the Bolt's range would put it in the same league as Tesla's Model S which is rated at up to 270 miles when fully charged.
